Powdered trees
Aug. 21st, 2011 12:17 pmWhile on summer holiday in Yellowstone, we woke up one morning to find this:

Admittedly, it was only late May (summer holiday came early that year...), but it was still an odd sight. Of course, less than two days later, we were sweltering again in the heat in eastern Wyoming and South Dakota and Nebraska...

Snowy road closure
Feb. 12th, 2011 03:54 pmHmph. I might be ready for spring, the weather gods apparently disagree. It was snowing earlier today. Granted, a few wet flakes, none of which stuck, but still.
It wasn't quite like this, though. This is what we ran into during our "summer" holiday in 2004.

Taken in Yellowstone National Park, during Memorial Day weekend. Aka May 29th.

Snowy Alps
Jan. 12th, 2011 02:20 pmRandom picked another Alps photo for today. I really like how the picture is almost in duotone, except for the splash of color from the flag.

Winter view from home
Dec. 21st, 2010 10:10 amNot one, but two photos today for you lucky (?) people. While most of Europe seems to get bogged down by snow, my little corner of the world is getting away relatively lightly. There's snow and ice on the ground, and freezing hard enough that the salting of roads is no longer working, but, when I woke up this morning, I was also greeted by these two views. Both were taking from the landing right outside my front door.
View of the water tower

( And another one )
The pictures were taken at about a 90 degree angle from one another, but the low sun made the color of the light change dramatically.

Frosted grass
Dec. 8th, 2010 06:44 pmWaking up this morning, I discovered the entire world was white. Not from snow (although there's some leftover mush around) but from frozen mist. It was too gloomy all day (and too cold) to go out, but three years ago we had a similar phenomenon including sunshine, which had scheduled itself conveniently for Saturday morning.
This photo of frosted grass was taken back then.
