After a heat wave last week, today it's the turn of cooling thunderstorms. They make for some interesting clouds. I took these about an hour ago, when a storm skirted past my place. First pic is taken on the phone, the second a few minutes later on a regular camera. It's not as spectacular, but shows better how "painted on" the sky looked. As always, click the photo for a bigger version.

Gold...

There's a lot of sparkle and gleam in St. Petersburg, Russia. I especially enjoyed the contrast between these golden spires of Catherine Palace against the deep blue sky.

Gap

Sailing in Hornsund, Svalbard, the weather wasn't very nice: rain, sleet, wind. But all of a sudden, there was this brief break in the clouds.

Sunset

The presence of a few clouds in the right place always enhances the sunset. Taken at sea, for the coast of the Canary island of La Gomera.

Loved the contrast of the half moon, the green of the palm tree and the blue of the sky over the island of Gran Canaria.

Birds

Jun. 1st, 2012 02:54 pm
Several months ago, as I came home from work, I was greeted with the sight of a huge flock of birds (starlings, maybe?) flying around in the sunset sky. It was a bit... Hitchcockian!

A wind turbine in Canada. While I like the angle, and the stark blue sky, I'm not 100% happy with the composition, because the tip of the left blade is right at the edge of the photo. Of course, having to tilt the camera in a weird way wasn't helping getting things right....
