Birds

Several months ago, as I came home from work, I was greeted with the sight of a huge flock of birds (starlings, maybe?) flying around in the sunset sky. It was a bit... Hitchcockian!

An older photo, but one I'm still fond of. Beautiful surroundings of the island-rich Finnish waters aside, I like how I managed to capture the sail boat just as it was in the middle of the sun's reflection on the water. It's very... tranquil.

Taken from the Stockholm - Turku ferry.

Big leaf

This leaf, backlit by the sun and sky, caught my attention.

Sunsets are always pretty photography subjects—expect more at some time or other here at [personal profile] shadomanda. And sometimes, Mother Nature makes them extra pretty: these two birds were kind enough to do a fly-by just as I was pressing the shutter.

Another backlit shot, this one from a classic street lantern in the old part of Strasbourg.

Lighthouse

Usually, taking photos by pointing the camera toward the sun isn't the best idea. However, if you have something blocking the actual sun, it can make for some interesting effects. Like this upward photo of the Faro de Pechiguera in Playa Blanca on Lanzarote.

By silhouetting the lighthouse and having a bit of sunburst around it, I think it's a rather different photo from "usual". As is proved by this version taken from the other side with the sun in my back.

*squints* Hm, it's also very phallic, I suppose...
Just 'cause I think it's pretty: the sun descending over the partially dry Waddenzee during low tide. Taken from the Schiermonnikoog ferry.
