A detail from the restored Cutty Sark ship in Greenwich, UK.

Chestnut

Clearly, this old chestnut in Greenwich has seen some hard times over its life....

Keep off the grass

Pretty hard to overlook, this bright blue warning sign in the middle of a very green field.

Spider's web

A--thankfully uninhabited--spider's web covered in tiny dew droplets. It's amazing how difficult it is to focus on something so ethereal with a consumer camera...!

Polite notice

The "polite notice" provides the finishing touch to this request. Also, from a psychological/communications viewpoint, wording it as a positive "Please keep your dogs under control" is a lot more effective than a negative would've been (i.e. "Don't let your dogs run free" or something along those lines).

Hitchcock'ian scene

Found this slightly Hitchcock'ian scene in Guernsey. Luckily for me, these were harmless birds taking a breather :)

Nature's course

This thing that happens when you let nature take its course....

Pine cone

I hope everyone had a good Christmas! And for those of you who celebrate the 26th as well, have a good day.

Tree roots

For today, Random.org gave me another tree picture. This time: the moss-covered roots of this tree in the woods near Chedworth, UK.

Footprints

This beach on Jersey was obviously a popular spot for people to take a walk during low tide.

Gnome

Spotted among the ruins of Hailes Abbey. It was such an odd sight, I had to take a picture.

Double fruit

Back after a two-week absence and visit to the UK (with lots of new photographs). And lo and behold! Random gave me one of the new pics to share.

Taken in Royal Botanic Gardens, London.

Gloucester cathedral

A HDR-version of a hallway in Gloucester cathedral. Fans of the Harry Potter movies might find the scene familiar....

Peacock

In the "Guess the subject" department, I present the rear end of a peacock with its feathers up.... The black-and-white makes the patterns come out more.

Bird bath

Been away for a few weeks, taking new pictures to share at some time in the future. For now, have one from last year's holiday to the UK:

Taken at the Slimbridge Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust)

It's amazingly hard to grab a shot of a bathing bird, since they move at lightning speed. This was one of many shots that actually worked out.

London Eye

As someone tweeted yesterday: INSTALLING SUMMER.. ███████████████░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ 44% DONE Installation failed. Please try again. 404 error: Season not found.

That... feels very true. And this photo, while taken a few years ago, seems to fit the current summer.

The original photo of the London Eye was rather dull and somber, due to overcast weather. Trying to work with the photo instead of against it, I turned it into black and white and added some film grain to enhance the dreary atmosphere.

Wings....

"Look, Mommy, I can fly..."

Not the most carefully composed picture ever, but I had to point-and-shoot quickly while the birdling was showing off its wings.

Statue of Holst

I was going for a clock- or time-related photo, since we went to Daylight Savings Time last night, but apparently there is none in my [personal profile] shadomanda folder.... So, have a random instead.
