Gold...

There's a lot of sparkle and gleam in St. Petersburg, Russia. I especially enjoyed the contrast between these golden spires of Catherine Palace against the deep blue sky.

Bergen

This is Bergen, the Norwegian city famous for its old town, Bryggen (pictured) and for its enormous amount of rainfall: 2.250 mm/year, spread over more than 200 rainy days. In fact, it once rained for more than 80 days in a row in Bergen. Guess I got real lucky, huh?

Odd angles

Nope, not a fisheye lens, or some weird Photoshop effect. This building truly is built with oddly angled walls. Taken in the Fort Bourtange.

The Eldorado building in NYC as seen from Central Park, August 2001.

Roosevelt hotel lobby

The Roosevelt hotel lobby in New York is picture-worthy. Taken hand-held and with low shutter speed (see the fuzzy person walking) on the old camera, I'm quite pleased how this turned out.

Lucky us we got to stay an extra night due to a misunderstanding between travel agent en airline, too :)

Park Güell

I liked the pattern these columns formed in Park Güell, Barcelona. Took some patience to capture it "people-less": it was Mayday, which is a holiday in Spain, so lots of Barcelonians were out and about as well as the tourists.

On the shore of the Garda Lake in Italy lies the pretty old town of Gargnano.

A HDR-version of a hallway in Gloucester cathedral. Fans of the Harry Potter movies might find the scene familiar....

Roof pattern

I'm partial to photographing patterns. As such, this Strasbourg roof was a thankful subject. :)

Parliament

Taken quickly from a passing sightseeing boat in the river, so the framing could've been better, but I liked the shape of the building and the reflections in the windows too much not to take a pic. It's the Louise Weiss Building in Strasbourg, France, seat of the European Parliament.

Lighthouse

Usually, taking photos by pointing the camera toward the sun isn't the best idea. However, if you have something blocking the actual sun, it can make for some interesting effects. Like this upward photo of the Faro de Pechiguera in Playa Blanca on Lanzarote.

By silhouetting the lighthouse and having a bit of sunburst around it, I think it's a rather different photo from "usual". As is proved by this version taken from the other side with the sun in my back.

*squints* Hm, it's also very phallic, I suppose...

Pigeon on Wall Street (Journal)

Photos of New York's high rises are a dime a dozen, available in all shapes and sizes. But it's the pigeon that sets this one apart for me (well, other than the fact that I took it myself, of course :)).

Shaded alley

This narrow, shaded alley in Morcote, Switzerland, provides a glimpse of a sunny Lago di Lugano.

If I'd paid a bit more attention to the entire composition, I'd have stepped slightly to the right, to get the bicycle and gentleman at the lake shore fully in view.
