Winter view from home

Not one, but two photos today for you lucky (?) people. While most of Europe seems to get bogged down by snow, my little corner of the world is getting away relatively lightly. There's snow and ice on the ground, and freezing hard enough that the salting of roads is no longer working, but, when I woke up this morning, I was also greeted by these two views. Both were taking from the landing right outside my front door.

View of the water tower

And another one )

The pictures were taken at about a 90 degree angle from one another, but the low sun made the color of the light change dramatically.

Frosted grass

Waking up this morning, I discovered the entire world was white. Not from snow (although there's some leftover mush around) but from frozen mist. It was too gloomy all day (and too cold) to go out, but three years ago we had a similar phenomenon including sunshine, which had scheduled itself conveniently for Saturday morning.

This photo of frosted grass was taken back then.

Out with the old....

In celebration of it being autumn: this fall photo was taken a few years ago, in an old part in the city where the streets are still paved with cobble stones. It was, in fact, a quick snapshot, while I was rushing from one meeting to another, and the yellow leaves on the gray stones took my fancy.

This photo has since been used by New York pianist Jeffrey Grossman for the inlay of one of his self-produced CDs. Just to show that it's not necessarily about how much preparation or thought you put into a photo, but whether or not it evokes the mood someone's looking for.

First post

Since I have to start somewhere, and [personal profile] tanaqui requested cats, here's Sam being lazy.

Cats are always a grateful subject, if sometimes a bit hard to direct, as any cat owner/photographer can tell you. Patience and persistence usually get results, though.

If anyone has any suggestion for further themes to explore, or subjects you like to see more of, do comment!
